The vine
Falanghina is an ancient variety, already noted and appreciated by the Sannites and the Romans who also called it Falernia for its great circulation in the "Falernus Age." The Falerni were probably the Roman merchants who brought to Italy this grape from Greece, spreading its cultivation from central to southern Italy. The first written citation of of a grape with that name dates back to 1804; one can find then a work of the agriculture of Padre Ex-provinciale Niccola Columella Onorati that inserts Falanghina among the grapes that were "good to eat." Many years later, in the '30s, a group of enologists crowned Falanghina as one of the best Italian grapes, largely recommending its dissemination for the best production as in the principal wine zones of the south.

Dubl Spumante di Greco Brut 75 cl Feudi

Type: Classical method sparkling wine

Minimum stay on lees: 24 months

Grape: Greco

Organoleptic examination: golden yellow color with fine perlage. Notes of dried flowers, reminiscent of pollen and honey. The perfumes entail a long persistence. On the palate, there is good weight and youthfulness. Sensations of chestnut honey between bitter and fresh. An impression of persistence, maintained by the presence of minerality typical of the territory.

Food pairings: ideal to taste during aperitifs with salty snacks

The vine
Greco di Tufo is the most noble of the southern Italian grapes. It was known in ancient times as Aminea gemella, as it developed a large number of double clusters. According to Aristotle, the vines of Aminee came from Thessaly, the land of origin of the Thessalians who settled in Campania and planted the Greco vines on the slopes of Vesuvius. Columella, Plinio and Virgilio wrote that the grapes of Aminee have been enjoyed since antiquity for their capacity of producing wines with aging potential. The site of Tufo has been for centuries one of cultivation of Greco, given the virtues of the extraordinary characteristics of its soil.

The vine
A grape of great tradition, Aglianico is the most noble and important vine of the south, representing a unifying matrix of the freat southern reds and is ranked among the finest red Italian grapes. There is controversy about the origin of the name. Different studies refer the entymology of Aglianico (or Glianica) to Hellanico or Elenico, accrediting the Greek origin - in particular Eubea (the Greek island) - of the vine. Il Porta (1592) identified the Hellenic vines with the ancient Helvolae, described by Columella and Pliny. More recent studies, revealing a similarity in the sounds of Guaranico and Glianico, made the continuation of the ancient Guarano, cited by Pliny. Unlikely identities, purely as a lexicon, are the similarities between the words Aglianico and Aleatico, noting the derivation of the synonym Elea/Velia. More interesting is the etymologic discussion of Andrea Bacci (1596) that resulted in greco "aglaos" (clear) and "aglaia" (splendor), which describes Aglianico, a red and splendid grape.

Feudi di San Gregorio is committed for years - with the technical consultance of the Universities of Napoli and Milan - in a project of recognition of the merit and rediscovery of this extraordinary grape. Through the study of the "patriarchs" - centuries-old vines of great charm that disseminate our territory - and the analysis of the soils and the microclimates of the diverse areas of the choice of Aglianico (Taurasi, Vulture and Taburno), Feudi di San Gregorio places this grape among the principal grapes of the world.
