Origin Bolgheri DOC
Grapes 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10% Syrah and other black grape varieties
Vinification The Merlot grapes were harvested in early September while the Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah harvest began in mid-September. After destemming and soft crushing the individual varieties underwent separate vinification. The Merlot and Syrah underwent a cold premaceration at temperatures below 10°C to enrich and preserve the varietal aroma precursors in the must. Maceration took place in stainless steel vats for about 10-15 days and was followed by alcoholic fermentation at temperatures no higher than 28°C.
The wine obtained was intensely fruity, rich in colour and tannins but free of astringency. Malolactic fermentation took place in barriques (mainly French oak with some American oak) and was completed by the end of the year. The wine was then racked and the varieties were blended.
The wine was then replaced in barriques for 8 months after which it was bottled and aged in the bottles for a further 6 months.
History Tenuta Guado al Tasso is about 80 Km south-west of Florence near the medieval village of Bolgheri, in Maremma. The 900-hectare estate extends along the Tyrrhenian coast to the hills. As well as vineyards, wheat, maize, sunflowers and olives are grown here. The vineyards are situated at altitudes of 45 - 60 metres a.s.l. on rocky, slightly chalky soil. Taste Intense ruby red colour. A subtle nose with strong hints of red berry fruit and light spicy, aromatic hints from the period ageing in oak. The palate is very soft and sweet and pleasantly salty with a lingering finish and fruity aftertaste.
