CT GEW
The mixture of alluvial sand, clay and calcareous soils provide the ideal conditions for the demanding Gewürztraminer vine. This Gewürztraminer shows a particularly good expression of its terroir, it is robust and silky with a complex aroma of rose petals, nutmeg, cinnamon, ripe oranges and lemon balm. An elegant and well balanced wine with great maturing potential.
Tasting notes: Full yellow in colour; a deliciously intensely aromatic and floral bouquet with hints of honey and ginger and a flavour of lychees; full-bodied, luscious but dry, the opulence cut by vibrant, firm acidity.
Food Combination: A great favourite at parties and for social drinking, it makes an excellent partner for Chinese and Thai cuisine, creamy Indian curries, foie gras, duck, lobster or crayfish, as well as blue cheeses such as gorgonzola and stilton.
Serve lightly chilled: 10-12° C.
Winemaking: The de-stemmed, crushed grapes are coldmacerated and gently pressed. The juice ferments in stainless-steel tanks at 18° C. The young wine refines on its fine lees for 12 months and further 6 months in bottles before release.
Lafóa: from a pilot vineyard to excellent wines
Lafóa is a byword for the beginning of the Alto Adige quality initiative and the pioneering work of the Cantina Colterenzio in the 1980s. At the time, the wine pioneer Luis Raifer not only planted new grape varieties on his vineyard named Lafóa, but at the same time introduced new quality standards: less yield for better grapes and better wines. It was exactly on this pilot vineyard that the “Lafóa idea” was born: the introduction of new quality standards that until this very day meet with the winegrowers and staff of Cantina Colterenzio. Lafóa stands for full-bodied white and red wines that are nonetheless very elegant and have great aging potential.
