BAN BRU10MG
Brunello di Montalcino was Italy's first wine to be accorded D.O.C.G. status, a testament to its aristocracy, balance and fabulous proclivity for aging. Under the direction of Banfi's master winemakers, our Sangiovese grapes are transformed into a remarkable world-class wine, perhaps the most respected red of Italy.
Aged for a total of up to four years, including a minimum of two years in oak barrels, Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of robust character. It possesses a rich garnet color, and a depth, complexity and opulence that is softened by an elegant, lingering aftertaste. Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino's regal qualities are best exhibited with game, red meats, roasts, hearty stews and rich powerful cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano.
Grape Variety: 100% Sangiovese Brunello
Growing Conditions: The season was marked by a severe spring frost and by one of the most extreme heat waves in European history, both of which combined to anticipate the start of the annual harvest. Fortunately, heavy rainfall the previous winter provided for abundant water reserves in the soil, thus avoiding the risk of hydric stress for the plants. While these conditions greatly reduced yield, they allowed for the development of rich and concentrated fruit. Most importantly, normal patterns of significant variations between daytime and night temperatures returned, adding finesse and complexity to this very good vintage.
Date of Harvest: From the second half of September to the first half of October
Method: In temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks
FERMENTATION Temperature: 27-29 degrees centigrade Length: 10-12 days Malolactic: Yes
Special Comment by the wine maker: The warm temperatures and abundant sunshine of this vintage is reflected in ripe and jammy fruit flavor.
Tasting comments: Intense and deep ruby red in color. The bouquet is very soft and complex, with a hint of jam which is well integrated with aromas of plums and ripe cherries. The wine's structure is powerful and yet at the same time gentle, with a long finish and great aging potential.
